What a Weekend
The past weekend was the most delicious mix of chill and flamboyant! On Friday, Stella and I had a Friday Family Movie night, just us, but this one was special because I allowed her to watch her first R rated movies. Halloween is sort of just for me and Stella. So I figured the best genre to introduce her to now was big girl horror.
Stella’s creepy journey started with an absolute CLASSIC - Scream! Because we’re awesome parents, Stella was able to ID Drew Barrymore (E.T.), David Arquette (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Matthew Lillard (She’s All That & He’s All That) and Courtney Cox (Friends, obviously).
Pop culture nuggets I got to share with her included…
how creepy that mask was when we first saw it in this movie and
that Drew Barrymore was probably the most famous person in the movie and the fact that she **SPOILER ALERT** died in the first scene was completely shocking to everyone.
She insisted she wasn’t at all scared. However, she did request a slumber party in my bed that night. So take that for what you will.
We had plenty of time for a second movie so I asked if she wanted to see another horror movie and she enthusiastically agreed! So next up on our movie mini tour was I Know What You Did Last Summer. We agreed that while the movie was entertaining, it wasn’t nearly as good or scary as Scream.
Still, Stella was excited to spot a couple more actors she recognized! The first was Freddie Prinze, Jr. (She’s All That). The second was Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). I was so impressed (and strangely proud) that she recognized them both! I didn’t even get into the fact that they are a real life couple. That will come later.
The high key part of my weekend came in the form of O’Noir: The Experience. I’ll share photos and more from the event in another post. But WOW. I’m so proud of what this organization is doing right here in Pittsburgh. And I’m especially proud of my friend Christina, who is a co-founder.
On the outfit front…
I have been picturing this puffy white blouse and this jumpsuit in my head for two weeks now. I was desperate to put them together to see if the combination would work. Needless to say, I was delighted with the outcome!
