:Lex & Lynne:

Beautiful, Unique, Ethical Design
Right Here in Pittsburgh

Long before eco fashion and sustainable design were trending hashtags, Alexis Corry was talking about the importance of more mindful fashion production. She was a passionate and outspoken advocate of the ethical treatment of creators before she ever dreamed of her first design. It was that passion that propelled her toward a process that is considerate of every material and every hand that touches her knits.

When I first met Lex in 2011, she had just launched her jewelry line, created from pendants and beads she had collected from her travels around the world. She was a vendor at a locally owned shop in Shaydside on a night when the boutique owner had invited some bloggers in for an after hours event. Lex was so kind and I was impressed by her enthusiasm for what she was doing. I appreciated that she brought her work and unique perspective to Pittsburgh (at the time, the fashion movement here was still in its infancy). But to be honest, I did not think I would ever see her again. Shortly after that chance encounter, I quit blogging. I plunged into the deep end of motherhood and a new career path. My mind was quite obviously elsewhere.

A few years ago, I heard of a new shop in Sewickley called Lex & Lynne. I was excited the city had a new, innovative retailer with a focus on conscious clothing. My mom brain never made the connection between Lex & Lynne and my chance encounter with the passionate jewelry designer. When I finally caught up to what was going on, I was thrilled to hear not only that Lex expertly extended her passion beyond jewelry into knitwear design, but she was keeping it right here in Pittsburgh.

Through her brand, Lex is earnestly committed to high-quality products while investing in global communities. She is dedicated to working directly with craftswomen in the Sierra Gorda in Mexico. Each garment these artisans create for Lex & Lynne is made by hand in their own home. The end results are exquisite, timeless and unique pieces that are so well constructed, they will take up permanent residence in any wardrobe.

I’ve taken this sweater to Mexico to throw on over my bathing suit and to stave off the evening chill. And I’ve worn it over my yoga clothes to grab tea with a girlfriend. It’s got to be the most beautifully crafted piece in my closet and I cannot wait to pick up more from Lex’s line.

Visit Sewickley to experience Lex & Lynne in person. And of course, if you’re not in the Pittsburgh region, you can shop online at lexandlynne.com. Use my code, SHOPWITHTERRA to get 10% off your purchase!
