:Giving Thanks:
Giving Thanks, Even in a World Gone Mad
Right now, despite everything, I can almost spot my old feelings of motivation, fulfillment and focus. I know these feelings are fleeting so I’m doing everything I can to embrace them and give thanks for whatever it is that has helped stream a small ray of light into the darkness of 2020.
One small thing that seems to be helping is wearing fancy clothes for literally no reason. I’m obsessed with this backless Free People dress I got from Poshmark. I wore it the weekend of CJ’s birthday celebration when we stayed at the Prosecco Room and hit the town (masked and outdoors, of course) and I’ve been pondering what excuses I can give myself to wear it again.
A standard work-filled Thursday felt more than appropriate. Turns out, getting a bit dressed up triggered a string of positive energy that flowed straight into the weekend. Thursday evening, I spent 2.5 hours on a FaceTime with a great friend… something I had no idea I needed so desperately until it happened. Then CJ and I spent time together talking about nothing and everything. Those kinds of evenings propel me. That tumbled into a very productive Friday, during which I started and completed writing projects and wrapped my work week feeling incredibly accomplished. This all made way for a very relaxing evening, sipping wine, noshing on my favorite sophisticated popcorn and sharing the beauty of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure with Stella for Friday Family Movie Night.
And this weekend… I had lots of QT with my two favorite people (CJ and Stella). Stella and I storyboarded and recorded a new YouTube video for her channel. She had some really fun ideas that we had a blast putting together. In the evening, despite yet another Penn State loss, CJ and I enjoyed our favorite activity - drinking adult beverages and sharing music. It was perfection.
Like last week, let me share a few things that brought me joy in hopes that it will do the same for you.
This book. A really great read.
This TikToc. (I don’t TikToc so picked this one up via IG.)
This recipe. It’s my go-to when I want something healthy & simple on the table fast.
Here’s to hoping these good vibes continue into this emotionally-charged week. Remember to take care of yourselves first and foremost.
