:The Ultimate unPittsburgh Gift Guide:

Gifts Available in Pittsburgh that you don’t have to be a Yinzer to love

There are so many talented creators in the Steel City. And while I am all for a distinctly Pittsburgh gift, (one of my go-tos every holiday is Commonwealth Press) I thought it would be fun to create a gift guide that anyone, regardless of 412 affiliation, could use. I wanted to feature Pittsburgh companies offering unique items, thoughtfully created and curated. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Each of the photo streams is a carousel so make sure you scroll through. You can click the images to go directly to the product website.

Happy official kickoff to the holidays everyone!

Lex & Lynne

The Lex & Lynne knitwear collection is the vision of founder and designer, Alexis Corry Kappel. A successful travel blogger in her spare time (haha… spare time!), Lex takes inspiration from the places she has visited for the unique knit pieces she designs. She is deeply committed to ethically-made, slow fashion without sacrificing style. And people are taking notice. Her designs are featured in the December edition of British Vogue!

Moop

I can fully attest to the exceptional craftsmanship of these pieces. The bottom line is when you buy a Moop bag, you’re getting a stylish piece that is built to last for, like, ever. Moop founder, designer and creator Wendy Downs says it best - “We are not precious. We are small batch made, durable, timeless and designed to carry you through the adventures of daily life.”

Studebaker Metals

The Studebaker Metals team hand-forges every piece in their workshop, employing tools spanning three centuries. They launched with the mission to make responsible, handmade goods accessible to everyone. The theme of quality, small-batch Pittsburgh creations continues!

Commonwealth Proper

My love for Commonwealth Proper is well documented. They have both ready-to-wear and custom suiting available. Everything they create has a laser focus on extraordinary quality, sharp fit and noteworthy details. And I am such a sucker for a brand that can stand at the crossroads of gentleman and badass with ease.

Mick + Kip

Mick + Kip is a seasonal holiday pop-up shop hosted by Lex & Lynne. Alexis along with her husband and travel partner, Zack, have curated functional pieces with an emphasis on comfort and grit. I walked through the pop-up shop a few weeks ago and was immediately struck by how much of it was distinctly CJ’s aesthetic.

dMarie Handbags

I started to see these ultra hip handbags popping up in my Instagram feed maybe nine months ago. When I found out the designer was a Pittsburgh gal, I fell off my chair. At the tender age of 12, dMarie founder and designer Danielle Bernard asked her mom if she would teach her how to sew. As a bit of foreshadowing, the first item she created was a small tote bag. After two decades of honing her skills and dancing around the idea of her own handbag shop, she took the plunge. She opened the dMarie Handbags shop on Etsy in 2018.

Get your hands on one of these keepsake bags. A preview party for dMarie Handbags will be held at Ruhling Woven in Lawrenceville on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 4 - 8 p.m.

Love, Pittsburgh

As the self-declared “champions of local”, the founders of love, Pittsburgh handily live up to the moniker by choosing to source their goods only from the Steel City. So yes, this shop does have a lot of items that are specifically made for Pittsburgh lovers. But as you can see below, they have plenty of exquisite wares for everyone else too.

Knotzland Bowtie co.

In an effort to combat textile waste, Knotzland founder and designer Nisha Blackwell takes the best in textile discards and reuses it to create stylish accessories. Some of her favorite places to source fabric are The Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, T's Upholstery and the Pittsburgh Opera.

This list is in no way fully inclusive of all the great items being produced in Pittsburgh. There are so many more to be featured but I couldn’t include everyone without this turning into a novel (and missing the holiday shopping season). What is your favorite uniquely Pittsburgh shopping destination?
