:Your Perfect Wardrobe Starts Here:
All Hail The Tailor
There are few more important components to a garment than how it fits. The reality is that sizes are all over the map. So when I’m stepping into a fitting room to try on that amazing dress I saw my favorite influencer wearing to perfection, it’s likely I’ll wind up a little disappointed. We have different bodies. And the way something fits on her is going to be different on me. Still, there’s one simple secret weapon that people with perfect wardrobes have.
A tailor.
Tailors and seamstresses are responsible for constructing, altering, repairing, or modifying garments based on a customer’s specifications, needs, and preferences. That means I can have nearly custom pieces in my wardrobe, shaped and trimmed to my unique body thanks to a tailor. Think of retail clothing like a template that you’re going to have customized. Don’t think about how you don’t fit the clothes. The clothes DON’T FIT YOU. There’s a big difference. By working with a tailor, you get pieces that will make you feel great because they were recreated just for you.
I’ve had a couple of different tailors over the years. They had a shop that I would drive to, get fitted, and then go back to pick everything up when it was ready. Well, lately I’ve found that anywhere I can find some convenience, I’m going to take advantage of it. Enter The Hemmingbird in Pittsburgh. Kirsten Jones is a traveling seamstress, which means she comes to the client for a private fitting in your home. She works on the necessary mending and alterations in her home studio and then brings everything back to you for a final fitting. I started off with a bang, giving her something like 6 or 7 pieces, many of which I had purchased during the pandemic and have been unable to wear (including this dress!) until now.
Kirsten is so friendly and easygoing. Which is the best bonus to the fact that she is very talented and did exceptional work. If you’re in need of a tailor or seamstress, or you’ve never tried one and you’re curious about the experience, this is your sign! Get in touch with Kirsten. By investing a little more into your clothes, you’ll have a wardrobe that you love to wear.
