The Unexpected Necessities

A silk slip dress like this Raey one and this Cult Gaia bag, ironically followed with a cult-like fervor, have had my attention for some time. But I wasn't ready to make the investments because I wasn't sure how to wear/use them beyond a night out or special occasion. So I held off and relegated them to fantasy.

CJ and I are traveling to Mexico this week, which was the perfect opportunity to make a few seemingly frivolous purchases. A tiny slip of fabric for dinner on a hot night and a wooden bag seemed more than appropriate. But to my great surprise, once I had these pieces in hand, I started to realize just how versatile they both were! The dress, while somewhat dainty, is the perfect accompaniment to items I love to layer. Paired with booties and even a leather jacket, and I could easily wear this dress for three seasons.

And the bag. Oooooh the bag. It's divine in person. And once it was in front of me, I could finally see how well it goes with everything. It's so different from anything I own. And it's intricate design is actually quite simple to the eye. So it quietly makes a rather pointed statement.

You all know how much I love basics. Things I can mix and match repeatedly and easily. From time to time I branch out and I thought this one was of those times. But to be quite frank, it seems I stayed squarely in my lane. And I'm perfectly okay with it.
