When do you find the time to ponder?

We live chronically distracted. So when you get the time to dive into your thoughts, what comes to mind?

Here’s how I learned I need to find more and longer moments to ponder my thoughts. I was unloading the dishwasher, which is ideal for my mind to go on a walkabout. As the random thoughts were flitting in and out of my consciousness, one decided to stick around for me to turn over a few times like a Rubik’s Cube.

I thought I saw a dog hair. It’s been a year since we bid our second dog, Murphy, farewell. And while I know puppy fur can linger, it’s unusual to find one in the kitchen, which has been cleaned many times. But the fur and the kitchen reminded me of conversations CJ and I would have when both of our pups were vibrant creatures, during which we would consider how much fur we had consumed over the course of our relationship. Both of our dogs shed a TON and all year round. A quick Google search does not yield a satisfying or scientific answer for me. (Although I did see that the average fast food consumer who eats fast food 5-8 times a week consumes 100,000 human hairs every year. So that’s gross.)

As I was tucking the last spoon into it’s slot, I concluded that we could have made a Border Collie-sized dog out of the fur we likely consumed. And then I missed my dogs.

So yeah, I definitely need to find time to get beyond these kinds of brain busters! How about you? What deep thoughts have you pondered lately?
