:Whatever:
Everything is Whatever Right now
I mean, really. Don’t you agree? Everything is literally whatever right now. Did you cook a decent meal today? Whatever. Did you get enough steps in? Whatever. Don’t you think your kid’s had a little too much screen time today? Whatever. How about a little self care, huh? Whatever. It’s actually really hard work being Whatever about everything. (Hard work like Dry January. Not actual hard work.) I bet we get out of this thing and our tolerance for stimuli will have gone down so much even the most basic of experiences will feel like being kissed by your first love for the first time.
Doesn’t that sensation… actually sound incredible? Is this my emotional and physiological lesson from this madness? Less stimulation actually gives the mind and the body a net higher level of satisfaction because when you have fewer stimulating experiences, the ones you do have spike higher than more frequent experiences. I don’t know if that’s true but it feels like it could be true. What if we could feel more satisfied, calmer and fulfilled just by staying home more.
Food for thought. We won’t be Whatever forever so what will we be on the other side of this? Let’s be thoughtful about it. It feels like a new chance for us to get some things right.
