The case for overalls in a
cas' office
Okay okay, look. I was never an advocate for overalls generally, let alone overalls in an office. Way back in 7th grade, I'd wear my overalls with pegged legs, an oversized Goofy t-shirt and one or even both straps undone à la Fresh Prince.
I know. Soak that image into your melon.
So when overalls made a resurgence a few years ago, I was staunchly opposed. How could they possibly look sophisticated or chic, let alone office appropriate? When you've been through one cycle of any particular style, it's hard to disentangle your vision of it from the original version. True to form, the fashion industry proved me wrong. Not only were overalls back, they became a much more grown up version of themselves.
Ne'er an American Gothic or Running Man to be seen! Sleek and fitted, overalls can look so profresh with the right top, heels and blazer. With this particular combination, I would leave the blazer on all day. I put a cropped top under the overalls, so without the blazer, even members of a casual office would blush. But I could see a Friday with this getup and then meeting up with the girls for happy hour sans blazer for a little extra spunk without the major wardrobe change.
I have literally worn this complete look with a white button up, which gave it a more modest touch. Definitely casual office appropriate with or without the blazer.
It's so comfortable. A little unexpected. A lot fun.
And let's say an early 90s dance party just happened to break out in the office. You'd be soooooo ready.
